I like this one because it’s a reversal of the trope that 2016 made you weaker. Did 2016 show you horrors beyond comprehension? Yes. Did it test your limits and destroy bonds you previously thought unshakeable? Yes.
But it did not destroy you. You emerge from the flaming wreckage stronger, hardened, and more powerful than ever. 2016 thought it won, and left your body to crumble.
so hey who else was taught as a kid that “”””wanting attention”””” in any way was wrong and shameful and has grown up unable ask for help or support even in great distress/suffering
Parent: why do you never come to me for help
(two days later)
Me: I need help with something
Parent: CAN’T YOU SEE I’M BUSY WHY CAN’T YOU DO ANYTHING BY YOURSELF GOD YOU’RE SO-
Me: never mind
And don’t forget the You Can Tell Me Anything (Except Things I Don’t Want to Hear)™.
oh look another list of normalized parenting things that are recognized as textbook emotional abuse behaviors if the victim is an adult
listen my man it doesn’t matter how many times you shriek you need a healer I am a delicate little music boy and you need to stay close to get your healing not charging into danger so you better jingle jangle back into the love zone or I’ll push your ass off a cliff
