You know what really pisses me off?

I’m in my twenties, and a shitload of people my age are burning out. So many of my friends are exhausted because we have to do everything at once: uni, extracurriculars, jobs. Those of us who are in academia have to teach, publish and do all sorts of stuff besides getting a degree just to feel like we might have a shot at getting to the next level. We’re all bone tired, and yet we feel like it’s still not enough, like we have nothing to show for it. Almost everyone is afraid they won’t make it, and I know some ridiculously talented, clever and hard-working people.

Every time my parents meet up with friends, they come back with stories about how their kids are facing burnouts and complete exhaustion as well, and while it makes me feel a little less alone, and also terrifies me. Why are things like this? Why is my generation crumbling because the weight just keeps being piled on? I’m so scared, and I don’t know what could possibly be done about it.
